People are just stupid

Not that I have any political aspirations, but this post would kill them if I did. All stories in the last two days. I wonder how many didn't get picked on. I would gladly give up my rights to give birth as often as I like and be scrutinized by the government and determined to be competent if it stopped cases like these.

Why people should have a license before they procreate:

Parents pick prayer over docs; girl dies

You know, I just have to keep this up cause I can't f'ing believe it:

A Bellingham mother busted for duct-taping her two tots to chairs and posting pictures of their terror-stricken faces on MySpace [website] continues to care for the children, despite concerns for their safety.

American Idol

Okay, I have begun my American Idol obsession. I would have started last week with the top 12, but last season was such a disappointment. Sanjaya just screwed everything up by being so dang bad.

These are my favorites! (and yes I voted!)
David Archuleta- he is only 17!

Carly Smithson

Chikezie Eze

Amanda Overmyer

Syesha Mercado

Let's see who gets voted off tomorrow! I hope it isn't any of my favorites!

Obama and Race

Hubby and I just watched Obama's speech on race. It was beautiful, poignant, and historical. I find it very interesting that as a black man, he was able to be able to give such a informed analysis about race relations. He isn't mired in his black experience; he transcends it and is thus able to strike a chord in every American, not just the left-wing, granola eating, NPR listening nuts.

Why is this? Well lets take a look at his background.

Here he is as a baby with his mother. Obama's parents, Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr., met and married in Honolulu — a white woman from the mainland and a black man from Kenya.

He went to school in Hawaii at a private school, but you have to remember, that many ethnicities have been successful here, and his school was a multiethnic melting pot.

After that marriage failed, Obama, at age 6, left Hawaii to live for four years in Indonesia with his mother and Indonesian stepfather, Lolo Soetoro. In 1971, she sent Obama, then 10, back to Hawaii to be with his maternal grandparents mostly because she wanted him to receive his education at Punahou, which boasts a rigorous high school curriculum.

In his 1995 memoir, "Dreams From My Father," Obama recalls experiencing some discrimination growing up in the islands, such as when other kids laughed at his name. In my opinion kids, are kids. Teasing doesn't have to be racially motivated. I was teased about my name. But I am not black, but was it less hurtful? This comment seems to be a "reach" to create a common experience with the African American population of the United States.

"I tried to raise myself to be a black man in America, and beyond the given of my appearance, no one around me seemed to know exactly what that meant," he wrote.

But Obama acknowledges he wasn't growing up in the Jim Crow South or the housing projects of Harlem — he was in Hawaii, where his peers mostly treated him the same as others. I can guarantee that the Filipinos and the Portagees got it worst than he did.

Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, a bank vice president, and grandfather, Stanley Dunham, a salesman, lived in a two-bedroom apartment in downtown Honolulu and helped raise their grandson along with his mother until he graduated from high school.

Fake Steve and White Stuff

I read about 30 blogs a day. Most are political and techy, but here are two that just make me laugh. Thought I would share

The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs

Stuff White People Like
A site that lists and explains the things that white people like, such as expensive sandwiches (#63), religions their parents don't belong to (#2) and apologies (#55). Things yet to be added to the list: Ski boots, talking about Roth IRAs and decimating native populations.

A link to an LA Times article about the site.

Look for a post about the rodeo, coming up soon!

lazy notes

My mother just got back from New Zealand. So happy to have her back. I missed her lots! I had a dinner party as well, invited a high school girlfriend over with her husband who is a cop (always great to know a cop) and her two kids, Kiani who is 10, and Kipukai, who is 3. It still astounds me to see my friends with children, although many of them have them now (La'i, Razor, Annie, Dee).

Just spent the evening at my parents house, and I have Humane Society Duty tomorrow morning early, so I am going to spend the rest of my evening reading The Red and the Black and crocheting. G'night!

10000 BC

10000 BC has to be the worst movie I have seen in a while. First of all, the lead character is just the wrong actor for the role. He can't carry the part. He ends up like a wuss who just gets everywhere in life my mistake or by people helping him out because they feel sorry for him or liked his father.

So apparently this multi-ethnic community that has Eskimos/American Indians, Maoris, blacks, and whites are this little clan living in the mountains and they refuse to travel to look for food, but instead wait for these mammoths to come once every couple of years. Of course they are attacked by another tribe which is composed of Arab men, who capture the hot girl, which for some reason likes the dorky guy. So dork boy goes on a conquest in search of her and himself, because everyone, including the old Eskimo lady who can see the future, thinks he is a dork and not a leader.

Then they ripped off a couple scenes from Jurrasic Park, and then added some animals that could never have met humans at all. You really have no idea what the main characters name is until he is about to try to get the girls back for the final time.

It is just retarded. Please don't waste your money.
